Disclaimer — Scope of ELAC Support and Action

The Environmental Legal Assistance Center (ELAC) is a non-stock, non-profit organization that primarily supports community-led initiatives to defend environmental rights and protect habitats. While ELAC generally acts upon the request or authorization of affected communities, IP organizations, people’s organizations, or local stakeholders, ELAC may also initiate complaints or legal/administrative actions on its own when warranted by its independent observations, fact-finding, or strategic public-interest considerations—especially where there is a clear impact on communities and/or habitats and urgent protection is needed.

The information on this page is provided for public awareness and does not constitute legal advice. Contacting ELAC or submitting a report does not create a lawyer–client relationship. Any engagement is subject to ELAC’s intake and conflict-check process, resource availability, and applicable laws and professional rules. ELAC may refer matters to partners when appropriate. The project details provided here are compiled from public sources and community reports; some entries may be tagged as “to be verified (TBV)” pending official confirmation.

How we decide to act (summary):

  • Material effect on a community and/or habitat
  • Legal and factual sufficiency (preliminary vetting/fact-finding)
  • Urgency (risk of irreparable harm) and public-interest value
  • No conflict with existing clients or communities
  • Feasible remedies (administrative, civil, or criminal)
