Welcome to the ELAC Journal
Voices for Justice. Stories for Change.
An Editorial Note from the Environmental Legal Assistance Center
For 35 years, the Environmental Legal Assistance Center (ELAC) has stood with communities across Palawan and the Philippines in the struggle to protect forests, rivers, seas, and the rights of the people who depend on them. Our battles have been fought in courtrooms, in barangay halls, and along riverbanks and coastlines where livelihoods and ecosystems intertwine.
Today, we launch the ELAC Journal as a new space for reflection, analysis, and storytelling.
What You'll Find Here:
This Journal is more than a newsletter or a campaign update. It is where we:
Speak truth to power through opinion pieces and editorials on urgent environmental issues.
Break down laws and policies so that communities and decision-makers alike can understand what’s at stake.
Amplify community voices—the fisherfolk, Indigenous leaders, farmers, and youth who are the heart of Palawan’s resilience.
Tell stories that inspire, through features, profiles, and narratives of courage and hope.
Reflect on lessons learned from decades of advocacy, reminding ourselves and others that the fight for environmental justice is both urgent and long.
We invite you to walk with us in these pages. Read, share, and most importantly, act. Whether you are a policymaker drafting disaster plans, a student searching for truth, or a community leader defending your ancestral land, this Journal is for you.
Because in the end, environmental justice is not just a legal principle—it is a lifeline.
Join us. Write with us. Stand with us.
